Very good! Can't wait to play the full game!
Ikai - Demo
A downloadable game for Windows
Fear and anxiety prevail after the darkest tales from Japanese folklore come to life in this first-person psychological horror game. Live the horror from the feudal era's beliefs as the priestess of a temple.
This demo is meant to test the key features of the final game. It is currently on Alpha so we'll develop it further in Ikai. Don't forget to add it on your Steam wishlist if you enjoy it.

The blood-stained leaves were the first evidence of chaos. The temple's bell screams for help, but it is no longer a sacred place. All Gods have gone, giving way to monsters, ghosts and spirits. You, the perfect priestess, had the onus to protect it, yet did quite the opposite.
Don’t faint now, embrace your weaknesses and pray for surviving in the mayhem you’ve just unleashed. Keep a stiff upper lip, nothing bad will happen if you follow these two rules.
- Write the protective seals on time with brush and ink
- Be silent, under no circumstances should you disturb the evil
Dare you help get back the Gods and redeem your actions? Experience the terror by the hand of yokais and submerge into the superstitions of the past driven by a unique story and exploration.

Thank you! The full game will come this October. We'll be happy to see you paying :D
First, The game Looks amazing, it looks really good and well polished. Second, This game is WAYYY too scary. I haven't been scared like this in a bit. 10/10!!
Hahahaha thank you very much! Hope you are able to finish the game, you almost got the seal finished on time. Remember, the library is not safe to write the seal. Better chose another location ;)
This is one the scariest games iv played just coz I played it at 2am. Cant wait for the games release!
My friends and I played this for a Random Horror Game video! Fantastic Job!
This game was pretty terrifying. Very well done, and looking forward to the full version!
Thank you so much for playing! Really appreciate the comments at the end of the video :D
Awesome Game. 5/5
5/5 wow! Thank you so much!
at the scene drawing the talisman im tyring with my drawing pad/pen tab
Hey! Drawing with a pen tab doesn't work quite well with the version of the demo. We already fixed this problem, and won't be an issue for the final game ;)
Everyone's saying the full game will be released soon and now i'm torn between playing the demo or not because I kinda want to just experience it in one go!
Hey HoneyHaunting! The full game will be released along 2021, there is still plenty of time until release. Also, the full game will be different from the demo.
It's up to you to wait until full release or try the demo now :P
Ikai had some good creeps :D i definitly will look forward to the full version. Liked it!
My god, my wallet is so READY to buy this game when it comes out. The atmosphere is AMAZINGLY creepy. The sfx is on point!! It gives me the chills and that's what I want from a horror game! The story and concept are so interesting and I can't wait for the full release. I'm glad I streamed this to save my favorite moments! Thank you for making such an amazing demo!!
Thank you so much! It makes us very happy to hear that :D
Nice compilation video, we love to see players reactions!
I just finished the demo and as others have pointed out, is just about perfect. A couple of things I'd like to see with the game are;
• Having a native Japanese voice actor (not the high pitch ones)
• Having a native Japanese voice actor speaking English
I'm sure the current voice is only temporary, but it really does detract from some of the immersion.
Secondly, some of the language used in the voice over and letters aren't very period correct. Such as "...and I've messed it up" just doesn't feel right.
But apart from those, a very well done!
Thank you for pointing these things out. We'll take them into account for the final game.
For the voice over we are planning to hire a professional voice actor (in native Japanese). The voice of the demo was done by ourselves as the budget didn't allow to hire a professional yet.
As for the language used, we will review it for the final game and we will make changes to be accurate with the history period. Very well found, we didn't thought on that, thanks! :D
Very nice atmosphere, and the anxiety doesn't take away from the game at all, which is pretty unique for a horror game. I really liked it! Also, folklore games are always so interesting to me.
Thank you! With this demo we wanted to test if the atmosphere is right as well as other things. I guess it is ;)
We'll try to keep it that way in the full game
I need this game to come out ASAP, it was so good!!!
Hahahaha, you'll have to wait until the full game comes out. We'll do our best to have it ASAP!!!
Definitely going to be a scary game, I look forward to it.
This not only got the best scare outta me on my channel so far (I needed a min afterwards lol), it was rly good overall & kept me anxious the entire demo. Can't wait to see more!
Hahahaha. Take your time, more scares will come in the full game :D
Thanks for playing!
awesome demo! cant wait to play the full game. i would rate this 8/10
Thanks for playing! We'll keep working so you can give us a 10/10 when the full game releases :D
nice game :D <3
Oh gosh i love Japanese Folklore and I think Ikai does an amazing job in scaring you but with also paying respekt to Japanese culture!I got to say I love it and I cant wait to see more of it!
I played through the demo and actually uploaded my gameplay to my channel. Before I say anything about the game, I would love to see a plushie of the Yokai clutching a little bell. That would be an instant sell for me. I actually had a great time with this demo. The atmosphere and sound design were phenomenal. You had me trembling and jumping at every little sound, I was a child. I will say that the voice acting could use a bit of improvement in clarity, but I didn't mind it overall. For what is available here, I am incredibly impressed, with it being from such a small team. I can not wait for more. Thank you for this! The Yokai swiping at the bell was actually quite adorable, by the way.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! We didn't though about doing merchandising of Ikai, but Kijo's plushie playing with the bell will definitely be on our list ;)
Thank you for making such a great little demo! I would definitely have to buy one if you did decide to go that route! Thank you for your response, I greatly appreciate it! I look forward to whatever comes next!
Played your game demo at the weekend guys, video just released. My gosh, it was terrifying! I've not played many horrors granted, but your game audio scared the hell out of me! The graphics were great, but your sound engineer deserves an award! I was a little disappointed I didn't get the jumpscare, so much so I went back and played it again purposely provoking her into attacking me so I could add it into my video. Haha. Still scared me then! LOL. Well done guys. Genuinely the best horror I've played yet. Such an amazing experience, I will absolutely be checking out and covering your full game. I will be stocking up on pants first though! 😂
Thank you so much for playing! If you finished the game without the jumpscare, it means you played well! We can't wait to see you play the full game (although we have to finish it first xD )
ME HA GUSTADO, los sonidos están muy bien trabajados y causan mucho estrés, enorabuena al equipo de Barcelona.
I LOVED it, the sounds are very well worked and cause a lot of stress, I praise the Barcelona team.
[ES] Muchas gracias! Seguiremos trabajando en los sonidos para que sean aún más espeluznantes :S
[EN] Thank you so much! We'll keep working to make the sounds even more spooky :S
Hahahah. Good idea to take a break and relax. Glad you finished it! Btw, I love the miniature of the video <3
This game was terrifying and one of the best horror experiences I've had in a while!
Glad you like it! It's a pity that the audio didn't record :(
It's pretty long for a demo, but was still good. The noise got me EVERY single time! LOVED the atmosphere, really. Cannot wait for the full game to come out. Will most definitely play it. Here's a video of my play-through of it. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
Thanks for playing! Hope to see you play the full game. Great video :)
A fantastic demo littered with folklore ( you need to play it a few times to find them all it seems) The atmosphere is great and puts you on edge as you hear random creaks and building ambience throughout the temple and ghastly breaths and cries as you panic to scribe a seal of protection to nullify a certain item (not going to spoil what is in the game)
There are a few minor critiques, the first is the click and drag for objects , whilst it adds a sense of depth like you are physically opening something it does not behave well for some interactions (such as opening lantern cages)
The Second is the voice acting seems a little flat and it felt like it needed a little more emotion behind it especially when first finding the cursed item the character should be a lot more scared or in a panic and also when the narrative tells the character to wake up it should have more sense of urgency, but these are only minor critiques to what is a very interesting and unique game.
Overall it is a solid demo and nicely done, it will be interesting to see where this game goes as it develops on.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! We'll take a look at the interaction to see why it doesn't behave well in some situations. As for the voice acting, we did it ourselves for the demo but we plan to hire a professional voice actress for the full game, so expect to be totally different :D
Yep. Another video of this demo. I think it's an excelent game cause its atmosphere and topic, just have some flaws in sound, but I see other people liked them, so may be it's just me. I like it in overall terms. Keep the good work! (Yeah, I clicked the add to wishlist button!)
Amazing game with very good graphics and concept. The monster kill screen and animation was a bit iffy but everything else was perfect.
Thanks for playing! Yes, the killing animation needs more iterations. We'll have it ready for the full game :D
This was a really good horror game. The graphics, voice acting, and atmosphere made this a great horror experience. There were some things that could be improved but considering this is a prototype they're mostly minor things that could be easily fixed. Overall this was a good and spooky horror game and I can't wait to see the full version. I made a gameplay video with a review of the game near the end if you're interested in watching. Thank you for your time and have a great day!
This game made my balls feel things
This game had me right on edge for the entire demo! The constant creeping horror, the nerve-jangling sound effects and the feeling that you could die at any moment make this an experience quite unlike anything I've come across in a long time!
I honestly can't find fault with what there is on offer so far, everything ticked along very nicely, the puzzles were intuitive and easy to get to grips with and I left absolutely terrified! So, mission accomplished I'd say!
Absolutely can't wait to see more of this, I know I'll be getting spooked right out of my pants again soon!
Glad that you liked it! And thanks for the feedback, we would keep working hard so the game doesn't lose the essence of the demo. Hope to see you playing the full game :)
You def have something here! I really appreciate the amount of work that has already been invested. It makes for an interesting demo with minor refinement needed. What I would suggest is if an object can be interacted with, but isn't needed to progress the story, at least make it so you can carry it with you. Instead of a pointless 'pick up object, look at it, then put it back down' scenario with every thing you interact with. Lastly, make sure the audio assets are blended seamlessly and smoothly. I'm looking forward for when this is in Early Access!
Hey man, Love the game! It's nice to see such a rich folklore to be brought back in the limelight, even more so in the form of a scary game! :D
The voice acting was really good, and the graphics and the timing of the scares were top notch! Congrats man :)
Greatest Japanese Game ever played, Jump scare is so nice that made me jump of my chair. I give it a 5 star. Thanks for the game
Nice video! Thanks for the rating :)
Noise and silence... they go so well together. The demo for Ikai is genuinely scary. At times, you’ll be thankful you don’t hear anything. But moments later, the silence begins to deafen. You almost WANT to hear something in hopes your feeling of isolation leaves your soul. That is, until you actually hear something...
That’s the back-and-forth I felt while playing the demo. It looks great, and the audio compliments the visuals to create a chilling atmosphere. But by far, my greatest fear came true when I discovered that I wasn’t...
Well, just try this already. You won’t regret it.
Thank you so much for your kind words :)
We believe that sounds and silence together can be scary without the need of a background music to tell you how you should feel. That's something we want to keep for the full game and hopefully, accomplish the same effect as with the demo.
This game was great!
One thing that really gets me is effective sound use! And the sound design and the way it's used in this game is awesome! I can't wait for the full release!
Keep up the great work!
Here's my playthrough for anyone interested (time stamps in the description):
