It's pretty long for a demo, but was still good. The noise got me EVERY single time! LOVED the atmosphere, really. Cannot wait for the full game to come out. Will most definitely play it. Here's a video of my play-through of it. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
A fantastic demo littered with folklore ( you need to play it a few times to find them all it seems) The atmosphere is great and puts you on edge as you hear random creaks and building ambience throughout the temple and ghastly breaths and cries as you panic to scribe a seal of protection to nullify a certain item (not going to spoil what is in the game)
There are a few minor critiques, the first is the click and drag for objects , whilst it adds a sense of depth like you are physically opening something it does not behave well for some interactions (such as opening lantern cages)
The Second is the voice acting seems a little flat and it felt like it needed a little more emotion behind it especially when first finding the cursed item the character should be a lot more scared or in a panic and also when the narrative tells the character to wake up it should have more sense of urgency, but these are only minor critiques to what is a very interesting and unique game.
Overall it is a solid demo and nicely done, it will be interesting to see where this game goes as it develops on.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! We'll take a look at the interaction to see why it doesn't behave well in some situations. As for the voice acting, we did it ourselves for the demo but we plan to hire a professional voice actress for the full game, so expect to be totally different :D
Yep. Another video of this demo. I think it's an excelent game cause its atmosphere and topic, just have some flaws in sound, but I see other people liked them, so may be it's just me. I like it in overall terms. Keep the good work! (Yeah, I clicked the add to wishlist button!)
This was a really good horror game. The graphics, voice acting, and atmosphere made this a great horror experience. There were some things that could be improved but considering this is a prototype they're mostly minor things that could be easily fixed. Overall this was a good and spooky horror game and I can't wait to see the full version. I made a gameplay video with a review of the game near the end if you're interested in watching. Thank you for your time and have a great day!
This game had me right on edge for the entire demo! The constant creeping horror, the nerve-jangling sound effects and the feeling that you could die at any moment make this an experience quite unlike anything I've come across in a long time!
I honestly can't find fault with what there is on offer so far, everything ticked along very nicely, the puzzles were intuitive and easy to get to grips with and I left absolutely terrified! So, mission accomplished I'd say!
Absolutely can't wait to see more of this, I know I'll be getting spooked right out of my pants again soon!
Glad that you liked it! And thanks for the feedback, we would keep working hard so the game doesn't lose the essence of the demo. Hope to see you playing the full game :)
You def have something here! I really appreciate the amount of work that has already been invested. It makes for an interesting demo with minor refinement needed. What I would suggest is if an object can be interacted with, but isn't needed to progress the story, at least make it so you can carry it with you. Instead of a pointless 'pick up object, look at it, then put it back down' scenario with every thing you interact with. Lastly, make sure the audio assets are blended seamlessly and smoothly. I'm looking forward for when this is in Early Access!
Noise and silence... they go so well together. The demo for Ikai is genuinely scary. At times, you’ll be thankful you don’t hear anything. But moments later, the silence begins to deafen. You almost WANT to hear something in hopes your feeling of isolation leaves your soul. That is, until you actually hear something...
That’s the back-and-forth I felt while playing the demo. It looks great, and the audio compliments the visuals to create a chilling atmosphere. But by far, my greatest fear came true when I discovered that I wasn’t...
Thank you so much for your kind words :) We believe that sounds and silence together can be scary without the need of a background music to tell you how you should feel. That's something we want to keep for the full game and hopefully, accomplish the same effect as with the demo.
I found IKAI an interesting genre of a horror survival game I would also like to point out the dialogue was simple yet effective. I did not really know what to expect with all the sudden jump scares in all the rooms and the sound effects kept me guessing where another ghost might appear. lol, I’m keen to see the final version of this game upon its release in 2021 and I think this game gives the horror genre a fresh outlook into survival horror games on Japanese legends and folklore.
We wanted to have some sort of dialogue to guide the player through the story but without being too intrusive, glad you liked it. And thanks for playing :D
Very well made game! The ambiance and noises really made you feel like someone was always next to you! Well definitely check out the full game on release!
Damn, this game has buckets of atmosphere. Very creepy and helps sell the whole "alone in a temple" vibe.
However, I do think that the ambient sound effects may have been a bit too intrusive in that they seemed to play so frequently as to become distracting. One sound effect in particular sounds very much like a door being slid open/closed. While that set me on edge initially because I thought "Crap! There's something nearby that can open doors!", eventually it just became irritating as it was then a sound effect with no source or cause for concern. It lessened the impact of the audioscape for me by the end.
Still, overall, the game was good enough to make me stealth mode 95% of the run, so that's gotta count for something! 😁
Thank you! If you don't mind, we're curious about why the gameplay is in black and white. Did you edited the video or you played like this? Did you had any problems with the game because of that?
Oh no, that's just a thematic element I use for this particular channel. I'm glad to have had a friend with me, because it scared me out of my wits. I've played a lot of these games and I've got to say this one felt really unique.
I like this game format a lot. Instead of just throwing a monster at the player, it becomes an educational experience. There's a game called Pamali with a similar approach that teaches you about the lore behind the monster, as well, and it kind of walks you through another culture's mythology, and explains how the monster became a restless spirit. It creates sympathy and changes the dynamic from "I have to kill this thing" to "I need to help them find peace." Great start, looking forward to more!
Glad you liked it :D Pamali has been a reference to us of how it explains Indonesian folklore through a horror game. We wanted to do something similar but with Japanese folklore
Love love loved this demo experience! So many creepy moments, and honestly, I loved the sound design within this game. Well done and can’t wait for the full game!
Great game!! Some constructive criticism: The jumpscares are too long, if there's a way to make them shorter, then great! Loved the atmosphere and all the background noise! Can't wait for more monsters.
I loved it, the story was another level, it left me wanting more and I look forward to the full game .. just excellent :) (the gameplay is in spanish jaja)
Absolutely beautiful!!! The atmosphere was sooooo good, that I properly spooked!! I'm gonna have to give it another go so I don't succumb to the spirit.
I'm going to be honest, I love the atmosphere, graphics, design, sound effect, story, and voice acting, this game is just beautiful, can't wait for the full release :).
Hahahah, thank you for the feedback :) We'll try to keep the things you liked for the full game. For the full story you'll have to wait for the full game, sorry...
It was a really nice experience playing the demo. I really liked the atmosphere and the location. I really like that seal idea, I hope you expand on it more! Keep it up and good luck with releasing the full version!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this game. The audio design was the strongest in my opinion. Although Kijo was a very spooky monster I tend to not like when it stays in your face for too long as it ruins the mystery of it. Altogether was a very nice game!
I am really looking forward to this game. I really like the graphics and sounds, they match well together. I also love stealth games, where you have to hide from enemies/monsters. This game has a lot of potential and I'm sure it'll be well used! Though there were some problems with when you died, your mouse sensitivity is acting weird. Sometimes its very high and sometimes very slow but I reckon that will be fixed in the future anyway :) Thank you for this Demo! 8/10 because of the potential!

Thank you for playing and wishlisting the game! Great video, plus it's in catalan!
Amazing game with very good graphics and concept. The monster kill screen and animation was a bit iffy but everything else was perfect.
Thanks for playing! Yes, the killing animation needs more iterations. We'll have it ready for the full game :D

This game made my balls feel things
Regardless, thanks for the great demo dev's!Thanks to you for playing!

Hey man, Love the game! It's nice to see such a rich folklore to be brought back in the limelight, even more so in the form of a scary game! :D
The voice acting was really good, and the graphics and the timing of the scares were top notch! Congrats man :)
Wow, we're really flattered. Thank you for your nice comment :D
Great video btw!
Greatest Japanese Game ever played, Jump scare is so nice that made me jump of my chair. I give it a 5 star. Thanks for the game

I finished it, well worth the effort! The video at the end was also really pretty 😁
Hahahaha, thank you so much for finished it!

👍
Would I go back? Yes. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this one!

Great game!! Some constructive criticism: The jumpscares are too long, if there's a way to make them shorter, then great! Loved the atmosphere and all the background noise! Can't wait for more monsters.
Thanks for the feedback! We received several complains about the jumpscares being too long, we will make them shorter for the full game ;)

Absolutely beautiful!!! The atmosphere was sooooo good, that I properly spooked!! I'm gonna have to give it another go so I don't succumb to the spirit.
Give it another go, don't let the spirit wander around the shrine. You need to purify it! :D
I loved the look and the sound effects were awesome! I'm definitely going to have another go and try to do better 😁💪
Thank you very much! Hope you give it another go and finish it.
Let us know what you think when you do it ;)

We'll reduce the duration of the killing animation, we received similar comments saying it's too long. Thank you so much for the feedback :D
I am really looking forward to this game.
I really like the graphics and sounds, they match well together.
I also love stealth games, where you have to hide from enemies/monsters. This game has a lot of potential and I'm sure it'll be well used!
